Welcome

Melrose's old railway station is a handsome Victorian building of warm sandstone, and at one end of it, under red awnings, is Monte Cassino, a family-run Italian restaurant.

The chef and owner, Antonio Caterino, was born in Naples, and he cooks the food of home: fresh, handmade dishes drawn from traditional family recipes, made with local produce wherever possible. The kitchen is open to view, so you can watch your meal being made, and there are always daily specials alongside the classics.

Monte Cassino opens in the evenings from Tuesday to Saturday. It is a friendly, relaxed place for dinner after a day in Melrose. The family has run it for years and won awards for its cooking, and the setting, in the town's grand old station, makes an evening here feel like a small occasion.
