Ayrshire, Isle of Arran
Loch Doon Castle
Introduction
Built on its own island in the centre of Loch Doon, its namesake castle has been demolished and rebuilt again – but still retains much of its original charm. Dating back to the 13th century, the relocated remains of the castle (which were moved in the 1930s) were a focal point for sieges during the Scottish Wars of Independence before being destroyed by James V.
