Hawick Museum
A free museum in an 18th-century mansion in Wilton Lodge Park, with galleries on Hawick's motorcycle champions, the wars, Victorian life and art.
In the middle of Wilton Lodge Park, Hawick's museum fills an old 18th-century mansion, and it is free to visit.
The galleries range widely, from Ancient Egypt and archaeology to Victorian life. Two rooms celebrate Hawick's motorcycle racing heroes, Jimmie Guthrie and Steve Hislop, and the War Memorial Room tells of the town's experience of conflict through objects and film. There is the Scott Gallery too, with a lift up to it, and the Park Gallery has interactive displays for all ages.
The museum opens most days from April to October and on long weekends in March and November. Afterwards, the park itself, with its lawns and fountain, is a lovely place to stroll, and there is free parking a few minutes' walk away.
April to October, daily except Tuesday, 11am to 4pm; March and November, Friday to Monday, 11am to 3pm; closed December to February.
