Galson Farm Guest House
A guest house of three rooms in an eighteenth-century farmhouse on a croft at South Galson, on the north-west coast of Lewis.
Galson Farm stands on the north-west coast of Lewis at South Galson, a long white farmhouse dating back to the 1700s, looking out over green croftland to the Atlantic.
Over the years it has been the big house of the district and the post office, and in 1924 the farm was divided into crofts. Today it's a guest house with three en-suite rooms, Port, Ness and Hebridean, all on the first floor, and a little self-catering cottage for two, the Crofters Retreat. Breakfast is made from local produce, and on Thursday and Sunday evenings there's the Galson grazing platter for two, which needs booking a couple of weeks ahead. The house is fully licensed, too. From the door, the lighthouse at the Butt of Lewis lies to the north, and the blackhouse at Arnol and the whalebone arch at Bragar are on the road south. It's open all year, with a two-night stay in the summer months, though it doesn't take pets.
