Caisteal an Duin Bhàin

Welcome

There's no better welcome to Muck than a short scramble up the rock above the harbour at Port Mòr.

Caisteal an Duin Bhàin is an Iron Age fort on a knoll a few minutes from the pier. The name means the castle of the white fort, and the stub of its wall still runs round the top. It's free and there are no signposts, so just head on up. From the top the whole harbour is at your feet. Eigg sits across the water with its Sgùrr in profile, and the hills of Rum fill the horizon behind. If you're staying on the island, go up in the evening, when the light comes in low across the sea.
