Grantown-on-Spey – Painting Pottery on the High Street

A few hours.

The route

Smarty Art is a colourful studio on Grantown-on-Spey's High Street where you paint your own pottery, from a cup or a plate to a piggy bank or an animal.

It suits children and grown-ups alike, and the studio glazes and fires whatever you make. Lunch is on the Square afterwards.

Before you go

    An attraction

Smarty Art is at 39 High Street, in the middle of Grantown-on-Spey. Parking is free on the High Street. Choose a piece first: the choice goes from cups and plates to animals, cars and piggy banks, with Christmas and Halloween pieces in their season. Then take a seat at the tables with 45 colours to paint with, and the staff will show you how if you ask. A visit takes up to two hours. Each piece has a single price with everything in it, from the paint to the kiln. Your work stays behind and is ready to collect two or three days later. If you leave before then, the studio will send it on by post for a small charge. Ring 07751 288393 to book a place, or simply walk in. The public toilets, with baby changing, are in the Burnfield car park, a short walk from the Square. For lunch, the Capercaillie Bar at the Grant Arms Hotel on the Square serves bar lunches from noon to 3pm, Monday to Saturday.

If it rains

All of it is under a roof: the studio and lunch on the Square.
